Half position receives only slight attention in most etudes and studies. Knowledge of half position is essential for violinists and violists, especially when performing late romantic and contemporary music. You students will find these short character pieces charming and challenging. At the same time they will be learning essential fingering. Book 1 contains six pieces on an intermediate level, introducing basic half position finger patterns and a moderate use of chromaticism. Book 2 contains six pieces on an advanced level, with extensive chromaticism and use of double stops and chords. Pieces range from 30 seconds to two minutes in length.
